Creative textiles practice and research
I am an artist, researcher, and mother to two daughters. I live in Dorset, UK, with a studio at Sandy Hill Arts in Corfe Castle.
I hold a BA Honours in Fashion & Textiles (2009) and an MA in Textiles (2019) from Chelsea College of Art.
My practice is very much process driven, centering around craft-based textiles practices with a focus on surface pattern and printed textiles, dye and stitch. I engage in such processes for the connection they offer between material, body, time and space.
In 2011/12 I lived in India with my partner. During this time I carried out research into craft and artisanal textiles techniques, it is during this time that I got the chance to spend time at a natural indigo dye house developing some work. I fell in love with the process if indigo dyeing, and this love has continued ever since. I now enjoy working at my studio where I expand my creative practice as well as teach indigo dyeing and shibori pattern making techniques; bringing people together to share in this magical process.
I am interested in how slow processes like natural dyeing and patchworking offer the chance to connect with the rhythms of life and create space to explore personal experience. My ongoing PhD research is allowing me time to expand on these ideas; engaging with textiles practice to explore experiences of early motherhood.
I am a lecturer and workshop leader with experience teaching and delivering workshops and seminars to BA and MA students at University of West London; University of the Arts London, Chelsea College of Art; University of Creative Arts, Epsom. Please get in touch for more info.
